- Fruit flies: complete a generation in 8 days at 80°F.
- Drain flies: breed in the gelatinous film inside drains.
Habitat
- Garbage cans, dumpsters, compost bins.
- Pet waste, decaying organic matter, overripe produce.
- Sink and floor drains, condensate pans, mop buckets.
Behavior
- Vomit digestive enzymes onto food to liquefy it.
- Drawn to light, CO₂, and odor plumes.
- Most active in warm daylight hours.
