- Cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) — by far the most common.
- Lone Star tick, Brown dog tick, Black-legged tick across Texas.
- Flea life cycle: egg → larva → pupa → adult, often hidden in carpet.
Habitat
- Shaded yard areas, leaf litter, tall grass, wood lines.
- Pet bedding, carpet fibers, baseboards, furniture cracks.
- Wildlife corridors — fence lines, sheds, decks.
Behavior
- Adult fleas are <5% of the population — eggs and larvae are everywhere else.
- Ticks quest from grass tips, latching onto warm passers-by.
- Both can survive months without a host.
