Subject Profile

  • Lone Star tick, Brown dog tick, Black-legged tick across Texas.
  • Flea life cycle: egg → larva → pupa → adult, often hidden in carpet.

Habitat

  • Shaded yard areas, leaf litter, tall grass, wood lines.
  • Pet bedding, carpet fibers, baseboards, furniture cracks.
  • Wildlife corridors — fence lines, sheds, decks.

Behavior

  • Adult fleas are <5% of the population — eggs and larvae are everywhere else.
  • Ticks quest from grass tips, latching onto warm passers-by.
  • Both can survive months without a host.
